Code of Conduct

Coach, Trainer, & Team Staff

Coaches, trainers, managers, and team staff play a critical role in the development of athletes and the success of the London Blizzard Sledge Hockey Club. As leaders within the organization, they are expected to create a positive, safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all participants.


The London Blizzard is committed to promoting respect, accessibility, sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal growth through para ice hockey.

STAFF RESPONSIBILITIES

Coaches, trainers, managers, and team staff agree to:

1. Place the safety, well-being, and development of athletes above all other considerations.

2. Treat all athletes, families, officials, volunteers, and spectators with dignity and respect.

3. Lead by example through professionalism, integrity, and positive behaviour.

4. Promote fair play, good sportsmanship, and respect for the rules of the game.

5. Provide athletes with a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment free from bullying, harassment, discrimination, intimidation, or abuse.

6. Recognize and respect the unique needs and abilities of athletes participating in para sport.

7. Encourage athlete development, confidence, independence, and enjoyment of the game.

8. Communicate openly and respectfully with athletes and families.

9. Support a positive team culture that reflects the values of the London Blizzard.

10. Follow all applicable London Blizzard, Ontario Sledge Hockey Association, and Hockey Canada policies.

ATHLETE PROTECTION

Coaches and team staff agree to:

• Follow all Safe Sport requirements.

• Follow the “Rule of Two” whenever reasonably possible.

• Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with athletes.

• Respect athlete privacy and confidentiality.

• Report concerns related to athlete safety, abuse, harassment, or misconduct through appropriate channels.

• Never place an athlete in a situation that could compromise their physical or emotional well-being.

FACILITY, EQUIPMENT & TRAVEL RESPONSIBILITIES

Coaches and team staff agree to:

• Respect all arena, hotel, and facility rules.

• Ensure team equipment is properly cared for and returned when required.

• Promote respectful behaviour during travel, tournaments, and team events.

• Act as positive ambassadors for the London Blizzard both on and off the ice.

• Ensure athletes are supervised appropriately during Club activities.

UNACCEPTABLE CONDUCT

The following behaviours will not be tolerated:

• Bullying, harassment, or discrimination

• Physical, verbal, or emotional abuse

• Threatening or intimidating behaviour

• Retaliation against individuals who report concerns

• Illegal activity

• Misuse of Club funds, equipment, or resources

• Conduct that brings the London Blizzard into disrepute

DISCIPLINARY ACTION

Violations of this Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action including:

• Verbal warning

• Written warning

• Suspension from Club activities

• Removal from team duties

• Suspension from coaching or volunteer activities

• Removal from the London Blizzard Sledge Hockey Club

The Board of Directors will determine disciplinary action based on the severity of the incident and the circumstances involved.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

I have read and understand the London Blizzard Coach, Trainer & Team Staff Code of Conduct and agree to uphold these standards while participating in Club activities.
